Inspired by a girl's email

I was inspired by this girl's story, when I first received it. So much so I wanted to instantly reply her and inspired enough to want to blog about it! She reminded me of me when I was dreaming about my big (that time its as big as you could ever imagined) Europe backpack trip, that I kept dreaming about since I was like... ahem... in my early secondary school years, when I started keeping & saving my own $ from the yearly angpow collection.

Life didnt get any better after graduation, I didnt have enough $ to go (on what was my budget). I didnt hook up with people that ying know, that could help her save heaps of $ with very tiny shoestring budget. (then along the way had huge misunderstanding / miscommunication problem with my already-history-co-dreamer-travel-partner-best-friend)

I didnt wanna talk about my post-trip "nothingness", cannot discourage people at all, for their dream pursuit my believe. It's just like a sort of 'back to reality boredom' that I had to go through after coming to terms with the fact that I'm awaken from my dream. Back to the stupid career-ding-dong that chose me. Reading the stuff / url that ying posted, I guess I could still relate to it partially.

Maybe for who I am, I didn't / couldn't stray away from the path. Maybe I'm still living my dreams... oh goodness, I think I'm too whitehat. I know for a fact that if I just decide to go for it, it will happen, the question is when?

I need to strike a balance with life, so I take from life, and I give to my life. I work hard, I play hard. I get to experience both the good and bad of both work & play world! Ahah!

Dont worry, I've not stopped dreaming. I will find my way through reaching the Potala Palace in mountain of Tibet. Its ok if my mom and dad and sayang would like to invade into my dream realm, cos I still cant find a reason why not. Heck, if anyone else is reading this, I'm sure they'd like to tag along ~ like I'm going to stop anyone.

Ok... I'll keep letting doze of 'Law of Attraction' to keep flowing through my blood stream... while I hit the sack for a real good night sweet dream! ;)

My CNY so far...

*think DIGI ad*

"Hou wong ah! Jao hai li dou ah!"

I tell you, if you walk into my house and my dad sees you in YELLOW, habis... everybody laugh their head off! So this Saturday, when I'm inviting everybody to come to my house, I was thinking what if everybody got DIGI-ized and turn up in bright yellow attire. Havoc.

Just because my dad has invited all his Malay cllg to come for this Sunday, he thinks our house couldn't fit so many ppl, he need to set up a tent. Since I have a party on Saturday night, so I could use the tent too, without requesting for it.. yet I have to split the tent bill with him. Like DOHH??!!

Now since I'm already having a tent for the party and its a potluck event, my aunt say "why not I invite my children's nanny family staying nearby to come?". My mom say "why not I invite your grandma & your ahku & ahyee to come?". My cousin bro who's coming back on this Saturday itself called and asked "since you're having a party can I bring my friends over? like not more than 10 of em?". My dad reminded me "since you have a tent & you're having a party, what happens when your sensitive Seapark aunty is not informed of what's happening?". OK.. I have to say yes to all right... its a POTLUCK, anybody can come, just bring some food.

So how was my CNY celebration so far? Everythng was as expected, the only surprise was my cousin bro's paternal 97-year-old grandma (finally) passing away, on the NIGHT of CNY eve! Infact, the recorded time of death was probably past midnight, so they say it's a good thing you know.. she's really really old and she passed away peacefully on her chosen time! Its like she knew that she's going, and she waited and decided that ok it's time.. and breathed her last breath.

They say she ate too much for the night. She told her nursing home mates that she's "not coming back and she's going home for her reunion dinner". True. She looked peaceful resting in the coffin. She's being cremated somewhere in Kamunting, and the urn will be kept at a Buddhist temple in Taiping, where her deceased youngest son's urn is placed at.

There's nothing 'bad' about going for a funeral during the CNY for our family, many of my mom's relatives attended the funeral, sorta like giving alot of 'support' for my 2nd ahyee, the nicest daughter-in-law for the 97-year-old pohpoh :P You know how different family, got different story, I'm quite (ok maybe very) pat / kepoh to listen to all their stories that has nothing to do with me.

Anyway.. I think I missed out crapping about the heavy traffic! OK maybe it's not that bad compared to the exodus on the eve of CNY, but I started journey quite late on chor-sei, ie 4pm left Juru Toll in mainland Penang, and reached PJ at 8.45pm. Ok maybe I was very hungry, and I got tired of driving all the way. It's like very syiok at first, I drove from KL to Taiping... then Taiping to Penang, Penang to KL. Can you imagine the number of vehicles circling around in the capital city?! Everybody seems to be coming back... it was slow moving all the way from Tapah resthouse. I dont quite like driving at night.

I'm back to office chor-6th. I dont care if its good or bad, I'm not quite in the mood to work yet, but I could save one day of leave, and errr... avoid being 'useful' at home. They're still going rounds of visiting today, I've had enough of angpow seriously.

ok.. eyes cannot open liow...

Funny Valentine's Day surprise

Wish I'm able to transfer my picture taken from my handphone into my laptop and then I could immediately post up the picture of the 'box of purple & cream roses' that I ahem received today! *silly grin*

How the surprise became 'funny' was how 'funny' I can imagine things. My vainpot teammate was im (instant msging) me about what's my plan for tonight, or what do I expect from my bf or blah blah blah... earlier on he told me about his plan for a bachelor's nightout at Planet Hollywood with his single-guy friends. (Sometimes, I do wonder if he's actually gay or turning gay).

So to cut im short, I just said I don't expect anything from my bf although it seemed that today is a special for couples. For the reason that I know he asked before what I thought about V-day (which I casually replied that I think there are more important day than V-day, ie. CNY, my birthday, my parents birthday etc :P) so case close. In fact I actually hooked him up to go BGF to decorate for the CNY tonight!

Back to my vainpot teammate, he was trying to rub it in saying 'oh today is very special day esp this year when I'm attached, and I should be receiving something from my bf!'. Then he went on
"ok, nvm I got some chocolate with me now, I give you one, you want?"
(of course I like chocolate, but I just thought maybe I should not take it, but anyway.."
"what brand of chocolate is that? Is it dark chocolate? Nah, nevermind dont want."
"No, I'm giving it to you now..."
(suddenly, I thought, hmm... why is he pushing a chocolate to me, shit is one of his prank that he used to play on me?!)
"Wait a minute, is it a cockcroach or a worm stuff?"
"No, I'm coming over..."
(then he carry this plastic bag of what looked like a gift and put it on my table)
"Someone gave you this.."
"Is there a worm inside?!?!?! what if something pop out of the box to scare me?!"

We continue chatting, he asked me to see the card and open it. I ask "is there a worm inside the chocolate?!" He replied "if there's a worm inside please eat it."

ROFL.. then the sender's sms came, before that I saw the card. I was dumbfounded, for a moment I felt like my stomach cringed.

See.. what's going through my mind now, is I can't wait to go home to show it to my mom and dad. And then I also can't wait to meet him in person.

This is a story of a sampat girl's encounter with Valentine's Day. *meijoonized grin sets in*

~15 Feb~
Ok taken a picture of the box of flower! Picasa2 is fun but couldn't resize la... I'm trying to make the filesize much smaller.. you know 80GB ext hdd also bokao for me liow...

believe me when I say...

...no I dont get any bonus not even angpow from my cinapek-style company, that goes with the tagline Global Capability Local Delivery.

My cousin bro is so happy that, even at his junior level he gets a 2.5 months bonus for his system support role. There's only abt 30 staff in his local IT company.

My aunty works as admin in one of Kuok Group's company, she gets 6 months bonus for CNY.

My other aunty works as admin in one of a cheminal company, she gets company trips yearly on top of 2 months bonus. This year they're going to Japan.

... ok not that I'm jealous or envious or what... problem is when people starting asking me "so your company didn't give you any bonus? CNY woh?!!"

... thanks for rubbing it in. No I dont get any bonus, not just me, the entire company dont get. "How can? Such a big company?! Somemore you say its cinapek company, sure CNY get bonus mah or atleast angpow?!"

I've never had the excitement of 'getting bonus', infact what I'm really looking forward to as a permanent employee now is the appraisal period in March & to anticipate for an increment in June. But this company is so weird, or I should say, my encounter with work culture is not very positive... I dare not hope for anything. You never know what will happen with your work life in this high-turn-over IT operation field. Shhhh hearsay my SG boss is going to leave us... apala. All the people that I'm supposed to 'look up' to leaves before me! How are they gonna write me good appraisal?! Same thing happened in my 1st company. (OK, dont count my 2nd job with the pathetic con-man company where I couldn't wait to pack my bag).

OK, let's twist the mindset abit, atleast I'm still truly thankful my current company is super near home, where I dont have to spend alot for transportation cost :D Now that's a big bonus right?!

Just wish my mom and grandma dont go comparing how much $ I could afford to give them during CNY vs that of what my cousin or bro or spinster aunts could give... doh... They actually go tell other people how much $ so and so and so gave them... go figure! (my dad is my insider)

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me…

Do I have heaps of work to do? (*phew, just as I was typing this, my fat boss just walked behind & asked me a question... but I had this browser minimized into a small frame, just allowing me to blog in the middle of the office).

Am I stealing company's time by not doing the work that I'm supposed to do, although they're paying me to work from 8.30am-5.30pm. What about the people who went to puff it away almost 15mins each break. My point is, I know that different people work at different pace, some slower and some (ahem) like me can work faster. So a faster worker who don't have to work way past 5.30pm dont get OT but people who claim for OT (maybe because they're bad at time management or work too slow?!?!), sound logic or not? Well, then its all up to my honesty, see how I want to make use or abuse the man-made system. I can't care too much over how other people claim their OT.

Anyway, I'm usually working longer hours compared to my teammate, either people think he's very efficient or I'm overloaded or I'm inefficient?! :P haha.. And yes, I get to claim OT while he don't (ssshhhhh he doesn't know it, cos fat boss didn't tell him thinking there's no need to tell him!).

I also get abit kiasu, when other people get sent for training, but I'm not aware of such training happening, hence didnt apply for it. Sometimes, I wonder how much more 'proactive' I should be in work life. Alright, I wont deny that I'm somewhat lazy / apathetic.

So anyway, I started the subject with 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me… you wouldn't wanna know how lame I could get, by google for meme, some of my blogger's meme were too patheticly lame that I dont have the energy to asnwer boring questions. So this is simpler.. just 5 things that you didnt know about me... (come to think of it, its not easy to think of anything now!!! Cos I talk too much, you should already know!!! :P)
  1. I get to claim OT at RM10/hr if its a weekday, and RM12 for public holiday.
  2. I never bothered what time I clock in and what time I clock out until recently when I'm allowed to claim OT, as I need to key in to the stupid time-system to show my number of working hours that matches that of my claim.
  3. I still dont know how to make use of Outlook as my calendar, that I need to use 2 different calendar-diary for my schedule, one for work and the other for non-work.
  4. My job as systems engineer, providing operation support for the I-dont-see-the-purpose enterprise asset management application from CA, with a super high SLA of 98% for application's agent to be 'working' at the 4000+ workstations in the region with the client company - is BORING but I do not want to change job!
  5. I sneak into & read this girl's blog all the time, without her awareness. (pls dont try to be funny and go leak it out)
There... this must be soooo lame! Maybe because its Wednesday, and the "problem" that's plaging our operation team and the SG infrastructure team has been standdown and resolved. Now awaiting for the big brother in SG to provide the RCA to the cilipadi boss. While my job is continue 'monitoring' that the system. Shitt... what if life is back to normal after the wave has calmed. Dont ask me go dig out my 'proactive' skill to self-study / learn when there's nothing to do. There's a reason why I'm glad study life is over!

Urrrggghh... malas malas malas...

understanding myself thru understanding people

I thought I like to 'understand' certain type of human being, like it or not, some people are very difficult for me to comprehend. So the more challenging it is for me to find the answer, the more I want to find out.

But through seeking advise from a simple-minded friend, I realised that my 'intention' of trying to 'understand' people may not be a gesture of trying to help people. I'm just partly trying to satisfy my own curiosity, which is like satisfying my ego of 'finally knowing'. Apala... what am I talking?!

Now I'm trying to understand myself : am I really trying to help people in my quest of finding answers about people, or am I feeding my ego finding answers to satisfy my curiousity?!

Khanti at work...

Just a quick update... hope it make any sense... im pretty sleepy now... but that no matter how 'busy' my life seems to be, I know of many other people who are also as busy or even busier!

The serious thing that really 'caught up' with me is the work. Good thing I can claim for OT, like rm10 for every hour - you do the math.

Been 'listening' to the advise alot... on being 'patient' at work, in Pali language patience is 'khanti'. and when I call out Khanti khanti khanti on my msn status, my christian friend got really blur.

In the midst of resolving the 'problem' at work by a certain deadline, I somewhat reminded myself to keep my cool, and just dont find problem with anyone, and I mean not even the st***d Pat and annoying Jhn from the island that gives 80% of the problem with 20% of the population.
This cucuking (poke fire) in my line of work is really testing my patience and my immune system. Its a wonder, how I can smile & acknowledge this same guy who sits same row as me, who'd spy on me on what I'm doing. This pathetic guy would always comment why my vain teammate is always not at his desk (if its not for Khanti, I would have shot him -- wtf do you care if T is not as his desk?!). I've been teammate with T for so long, and still I dont have any problem with T except when his vain streak strikes.

The smile, my fake smile on my face at work, I should really put up a proper smile, although as insincere as 'putting it on'. Khanti... you're such a teacher, I'm really trying to put in the effort, to challenge myself, to not fight back with anyone.

I find my work relationship somewhat improves with st**d Pat and annoying Jhn. These jokers can even 'compliment' me thru IM *oh how flattering*... Pat thinks if I continue work hard and learn as much as I could, I could actually be a good team lead in the future. Jhn *finally* thought that our teammembers are actually 'nice' to work with, if only the client dont push us so hard, that we're always finding trouble with Jhn's team (3rd level).

yes, so if I'm good... why can't certain relevant other people see it?! if its not about office politics - blurrrgghhh... it is. My strategy will always be - diplomatic. But since 2007, I'm adding KHANTI with diplomacy, for my own good. I'm actually seeing the positive result of actually keeping the cool, and dont even bother mind-shooting anyone. Like really let u be...

Atleast the fake smile is easier to put up when I'm not mentally pulling my hair / strangling your neck / banging my head on the table.

cool.. khanti khanti khanti....

The PMS inflicted weekend

What can PMS do to you?

*ok at the moment that I'm typing this, Thiery Henry just scored the goal for Arsenal!! GOAL!!!

From Friday late night (so sleepy during m.puja), when I yelled so loudly at my parents due to my stupid attitude problem - refusing to buy NST for dad while he was away to Langkawi for 3 days. There's some contest in NST that's why he wanted the NST, and I know I wont have the time to buy newspaper for him in the morning, by the time I finish work and do all the other stuff that's more important to do, I know I will 'forget' to buy the NST. So by not disappointing dad for 'forgetting to buy', I have to refuse to buy and hope can take no for an answer. It seems he can't take no for an answer, he can't understand why I can do all the things in the world, but I just can't buy a newspaper for him.

I still can't find the logic here.. *is it the works of PMS?!*

Then on Sat & Sun morning, it was all about exercise. My back was / is still feeling quite strain (dont wanna sound like I'm such an old lady)...

Saturday Night - LIVERPOOL BEAT CHEALSEA 2-0?!?! Now how can I miss that?!

OK, where was I, watching Japanese Drum Concert at Istana Budaya... the show was superb.. but there was anxiety running through my mind, which I find it quite illogical. Ok found the answer, most highly probably due to PMS!

*...Thiery Henry just scored the 2nd gOaL for Arsenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then Sunday morning, teaching orientation class 7-8 year old students, could make you sink in watching the looks of the innocent cute kids. When I asked 'who else should you show your love and care for besides to the animal friends?' ... one boy sitting at the back, innocently very slowly raised his finger. I looked at him, and allowed him to speak, he said "God". I totally lost my instinctive sarcasm with the kids... I just talked very nicely and loudly reaching out to the kids, at one point my voicebox got disrupted.

Slept through the afternoon on the sofa, until dad switched on the TV to watch Malaysia vs Indonesia badminton finals! I'm like whoaah.. like totally awaken. How can I just go from 'sleepmode' to 'wakemode'?

After feeling so excited over Malaysia's victory, I went on cleaning-mode.... another sign of PMS!

Even now at 2am, you're asking why am I not asleep?! Err... PMS?! Arsenal beat MU woh!

Ridiculous joke

Ok, basically I'm just pasting the content of an email from friend. I'm still trying to digest this whole JeffOoi sued by NSTP hooha, which sounded really ridiculous to me even more so now after reading through a few blogger's comments. Newspaper suing a public civilian?! C'mon give me a break. If there really is a court case, please laugh together with me... I still find it hard to believe. I still find this a joke on earth planet. Maybe I come from out-ar space!

This is the official statement of Bloggers United. This statement is jointly drafted by Susan Loone and Sheih of Kickdefella. All those who believe in justice and right to free speech, please sign on and put this up in your blogs.

BLOGGERS UNITED CONDEMN ACTION AGAINST ROCKY & JEFF & DEMAND LEVEL PLAYING FIELD in ALL ACTION AGAINST BLOGGERS

We, Malaysian bloggers, we, who believe in justice and right to free speech, we, who endorse the Bloggers United movement, unanimously condemn the action taken by media conglomerate NSTP against bloggers Rocky Bru and Jeff Ooi. The action by the newspaper against the duo is an action against all bloggers who believe in their right to free speech, freedom of expression and justice.

The recent event may seem like a grave development in the path of bloggers, but it can never and must never impede or stop us from defending our right to speak, to express, to write and to tell the truth, to be the watchdog, eyes and ears of the people, or simply to share our view, and give fair comment on any subject which involves and affects us as humans, as rightful citizens of this country.

The recent event may very well give the government owned media the opportunity to dictate the so-called ‘truth” but such actions only prove that bloggers must unite, continue to uphold the right to free speech and freedom of expression, fight for justice, even if it is not our own, be more alert, committed to the cause of free speech, relentless and persistence in the face of such persecution like the one which had befallen on the two of us.

What YOU do to any of US, is what YOU do to ALL.

As responsible bloggers, we demand and claim our space on the blogosphere for free and fair comment, where important national issues and prominent personalities are discussed.

Although it may seem as if the NSTP defamation suits will have a chilling effect on freedom of bloggers, as litigation can be expensive and may jeorpadise a blogger’s economic position, we will not be cowed or silenced by those who have no regard for free speech.

If you find our post offensive, you may refute us with correct facts and figures and fair comment, in the spirit of free speech.

The first two cases will have grave impact not only on the internet, but country as a whole as the country celebrates VMY2007. The healthy, mature and democratic growth for free speech and expression in our midst is at stake. The reputation of the nation as it strives to promote our multimedia supercorridor and love for IT will be a national joke for all the world to feast on.

We demand for a level playing field in all action meted out to bloggers and in particular in the defamation proceedings particularly in terms of financial resources and capabilities, and secondly, that the legal rights of bloggers et al are properly protected in keeping with the imperatives of an information society and knowledge economy which Malaysia aspires to become.

New fetish with heritage patterned floor tiles

This (pic on right) was taken in Penang's Peranakan House which is a heritage building. That's when the idea was first came about.

I would admit that the initial idea came from viewing Mudz blog, my ex-cllg in Ac who had a profile picture of his feet at his blog.
Issshhhh, come to think of it, I wish that I didn't see his blog before, so then when I captured my own feet I wouldn't have this thought 'where have I seen this before'?

But still, think Mudz didn't have tiles below his selipar... so can I say this is still essentially my idea? You know like in creative arts you have to have your own idea and not copycat?

Well.. im so prone to copying / manipulating, knowly that my brain is lazy to think... to coming up with original idea is not so easy!

Just like you've most probably seen my wedding photo shots from somewhere else.

What is my my own brand / style of photographs? Hmm...

This is just but an idea, the idea of taking tonza pictures of heritage building's floor tiles which comes in different patterns & colours.
I'm fascinated that those tiles are all different from one another! It's like, if being an avid stamp collectog, trying to gather as many different print of stamps as possible, I've started to have this fetish of trying to capture patterned floor tiles with my feet on it!

What if I've collected more than enough pictures of my feet on heritage patterned floor tiles, I could have it printed like a coffeetable book for fun viewing pleasure!

Wakakakaz... sei mei, I think I'm really siow. Like my primary schoolmate will call me - sa poh!
